Spaces that move on their own
NAVER aims to realize "autonomous spaces" in cities using autonomous driving technologies. To this end, we started the ALT project to develop an on-road autonomous robot platform that can be customized for diverse purposes. The technology accumulated through this project has served as the foundation for GAK Sejong’s ALT-B. The letter “B” here stands for “bus.” ALT-B is like an elevator that runs horizontally across the data center which has a round-trip distance of more than 1 kilometers and is the size of 41 soccer fields. When called as needed, ALT-B will come straight to the requester, connecting far-distant spaces into one.
Driverless and fully autonomous
ALT-B is powered by NAVER's full-stack autonomous driving technology. It is equipped with ALTRIV, the company’s autonomous driving software developed by actually driving through complex city centers, after receiving the temporary autonomous driving permit from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport in 2017 — the first in the IT industry to obtain the permit. There is no driver's seat and no driver, as ALT-B itself is the driver.
ALT-B uses a variety of sensors to precisely recognize its surroundings and drive safely - day or night, rain or shine.
In 3 steps: call, ride, and drop-off
The user experience is as simple as riding in an elevator. Users call ALT-B from a kiosk located at the station. When it comes, you get on. And when it arrives, you get off. There's no sense of unfamiliarity, only convenience.
Inside ALT-B, passengers are free to do whatever they want – from taking care of work to even looking out the window and daydreaming. If they want to know the driving status or get information on the destination, passengers can always check the display located inside. An exterior LED display also provides information to pedestrians and vehicles to help with safety.
ALT-B is connected to ARC, a multi-robot intelligence system based on NAVER Cloud. This allows us to monitor ALT-B in real-time and provide the best service with optimal dispatching. ALT-B is the most innovative space and infrastructure that combines autonomous driving, AI, and cloud technologies.
