NAVER LABS has previously distributed HD road map datasets for Pangyo and Sangam areas for free last October. NAVER LABS was the first of any private company in Korea to disclose and distribute such data, and many institutions and organizations filed applications. At that time, NAVER LABS promised to expand and cover more areas for free.

The additional HD map datasets disclosed this time encompass the entire areas of Yeouido and Magok, covering roads of up to 53 km and a total area of 7 km². The datasets were also produced with a unique solution for creating HD maps, aka “Hybrid HD mapping.” In addition to increasing accuracy, the datasets also include video from the front stereo camera and two rear cameras to enhance the performance of our vision-based localization technology (which has also been added to the previous datasets for Pangyo and Sangam areas.)

The newly disclosed datasets are provided free of charge to startups and research institutes that study autonomous driving for research purposes. We look forward to taking on challenges and growing together toward greater goals.

“We plan on continuing to upgrade our hybrid HD mapping technology, while at the same time disclosing our data. We seek to strive together to raise the level of autonomous driving technologies in Korea with this data.”

(Jong-yoon Peck, Leader of Autonomous Driving Team)
