Professor Kim Sangbae, Director of the Biomimetic Robotics Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology joined NAVER LABS as Technical Consultant on July 1.
Professor Kim Sangbae, a distinguished robotics engineer, has developed robots such as the MIT Cheetah 1/2/3, Mini Cheetah, Hermes and Meshworm, and Kim’s Stickybot was even featured in Time Magazine as one of the Best Inventions in 2006. Currently, MIT Biomimetic Robotics Lab, led by Professor Kim Sangbae, and NAVER LABS are maintaining a relationship of continuous industry-academia cooperation. In particular, the MIT Cheetah 3 and Mini Cheetah, developed through the industry-academia cooperation with NAVER LABS, will be used as a technology to solve the mobility problems of robots in various areas including sidewalks.

The recruitment of a technical consultant is aimed to further organically strengthen cooperation with NAVER LABS. In particular, the focus of NAVER LABS on technology that provides practical help to people in various everyday spaces even correspond with each other even corresponds with the research philosophy of Professor Kim Sangbae. There will be very new and substantial synergies to accelerate our technology roadmap, including technical cooperation for designing and controlling systems/mechanisms, cross-training of engineers through human/academic exchanges, and discovering of talented individuals.
